CALDO was initially conceived as a somewhat spontaneous response to a workshop that Joana Barrios created on “marmitas” at FuFu Atelier just a couple of months ago, evolving swiftly into an independent publication that encourages culinary curiosity and invites readers to engage directly with local commerce. Now, in its second iteration—emerging within the festive season—Joana aligns with PARLAMENTO, offering a Christmas edition.
Rather than presenting a straightforward compendium of dishes, this seasonal CALDO takes on a confessional tone, framed by a distinctly feminine lens. It becomes a medium of collective voices and sensibilities. We expressed through visuals and text, embracing typographic experimentations, layered illustrations, and dynamic graphic compositions. Maintaining the experimental spirit that defined CALDO’s debut, intensifying the interplay between image, language, and tactile presence.
In addition to the publication, a limited drop of tea towels and aprons, crafted from the deadstock of a Portuguese textile company. This conceptual “drop” mirrors the exclusivity of a niche streetwear release, comprising merely twenty sets, each one unique and non-replicable. Hand-screened by Mr Shirt Guy, each piece contributes to CALDO’s identity as a rare and coveted artifact, inviting sensory engagement, touch, scent, and the shared culinary memories it evokes.
