Radical Gestures is the first of two acts presented by Tatiana Macedo at Rialto6: video installations conceived for that specific space, revisiting more than twenty years of experimental work in film. The artist’s text is a manifesto against the image as instant consumption, and ends with a question that repeats itself: how radical is it?
The exhibition’s communication could not answer that question with noise. We decided that typography would be the single gesture: strong in presence, economical in action.
If, in her work, the pause is action, in our system white space becomes structure. Typography announces, occupies, and then withdraws, allowing Tatiana’s images to do the rest. A radical gesture does not need to be large. It needs to know when to stop.
